Women’s Self Organised Group Meeting
What a fabulous time last night (Monday 17th March) at the women’s group meeting. A brilliant turnout of members from both branches.
The night started by completing an individual NHS menopause questionnaire – a fantastic tool for starting a conversation with your GP about your health. ( link to the questionnaire
HERE ).
Raffle tickets bought and delicious cakes from Mags, it was time to have our first guest speaker of the evening.
Thanks again to Robyn from Thrive – she delivered an excellent presentation that gave a huge insight into why the menopause makes us feel the way it does. Robyn was so easy to listen to and her knowledge on nutrition was spot on! Certainly made many of us think about steps we can take to improve our health and wellbeing. Pop over to Robyn’s FB page, there is lots of useful information.
Alma and Rachel from FS&L talked us through the fantastic sports facilities Fife has to offer. You can swim, enjoy the gym or take up different low and high impact classes. They also offer well-being sessions where individuals who perhaps have a specific health concern or disability can have a tailored fitness programme. They also offer FC & NHS employee discount on memberships!
Our first raffle was a great success. We can’t thank individuals enough for their kind donations of prizes!
The raffle made a grand total of £64 which was amazing – this is the start of additional funds to help support the Women’s Group to keep going and create amazing activities for our women members to enjoy.
Thanks again to Elle’s Oasis for their kind donation of a superb hamper of beauty products – the member who won it was thrilled. You can also pop over to Elle’s FB page for more information.
Thanks also to Cleo’s Holistic Therapies for donation a gift voucher. The member was overjoyed. Cleo also has further information on her FB page.
We also had individuals who kindly donated some prizes, so a huge thanks to you too.
Last but not least, thanks to FS&L for donating swim passes for their establishments. We have to say, everyone was delighted at this prize!
Please enjoy the pictures and we hope to see many more of our women members at the next meeting

Jenna and Jackie our joint Women’s Officers attended the Women’s Conference from 13-15th February 2025 in Edinburgh.
They have a fantastic conference and we’re sure we’ll get some updates over the next few days.
We also look forward to our next Women’s Group meeting taking place on Monday 17th March. We’ll be talking Menopause
Our members taking on officer roles and forming these groups make a real difference to our union and our branch!
On day two of the conference Jackie attended her first workshop on the menopause. This will be hugely beneficial for our upcoming women’s group evening, on Monday 17th March, where we’ll be talking menopause.
“We are women, we are strong” is a lyric from a song about women in the working class, including those who worked in the mines.
The song was part of the 1984 miners’ strike.
UNISON supports women’s rights in the workplace and community.
UNISON’s Women’s Group campaigns for equality in the workplace and for improvements to women’s rights.
Finally we have a lovely photograph of UNISON Fife Branch and UNISON Fife Health Branch Women’s Officers meeting up at conference!
Watch this space, there will be more branch collaborations happening in the future
Woman’s Group Meeting 16th September 2024
What can we say…. the first of our new Women’s Group was absolutely fantastic with a great turnout!
Firstly, a huge thanks to our women’s committee who worked really hard to make the night possible and of course Mags, our own personal baker! Look at those UNISON cakes!!
Next, a huge thanks to Louise and Sylvia, the community Support Team from The Well. There is so much support out there in Fife that we just don’t realise, and they shared a taster of these services with us tonight. The Well have ‘drop in sessions’ all over Fife and can signpost individuals to other services. We will post links to websites in the comments.
Finally, a huge thanks to all the women members who came along tonight. The committee started us off with a wee ‘ice breaker’ it’s amazing what you can find out about people in 10 minutes! We now know Janice drives a blue car!!
Hopefully this is the start of a really successful, supportive group and it will grow from strength to strength. It was also lovely to see some members returning who came along to the women’s group many years ago when Kathleen and Margaret were our joint women’s officers
Look out for the next date… we heard someone on the committee mention Christmas crafts

8th September 2024
A wee reminder that our Women’s Group first meeting is happening in 2 weeks time – Monday 16th September!
A small update for the night –
As well as tea, coffee, cakes and a natter, a member of staff from ‘The Well’ are coming to talk about health and well-being.
Jenna has also ordered their toolkits to give out on the night.
It’s starting to sound like a fantastic first event. So make sure and come along.
If you work with a colleague who’s not a member of UNISON, why not bring them along? There will also be a stall where women can sign up to UNISON on the night and of course, a wee freebie

We look forward to see all our women who are members of UNISON Fife Branch, Local Government.
