Who are we ?

UNISON is the UK’s largest union, serving more than 1.3 million members. We represent full-time and part-time staff who provide public services, although they may be employed in both the public and private sectors. UNISON represents and acts for members working in a range of public services and utilities. We represent members, negotiate and bargain on their behalf, campaign for better working conditions and pay and for public services. We represent and act for members working in a range of public services and utilities, whether they’re employed by private companies, public authorities or in the community and voluntary sector. Representing our members is a key part of UNISON’s work. Our reps form the vital links between members and the union as a whole and are volunteers, trained by UNISON to support members at work. 📚 Postcode Lottery in Our School Libraries – HOPEFULLY No More 🤞 On 26th February, new budget proposals for Fife Council will go before committee — including an additional £0.250m investment in the school library service, alongside wider education funding increases.UNISON Fife has recently campaigned for properly resourced libraries in all our high schools — with qualified librarians and dedicated library staff. Because our children deserve the very best. These two photos tell the story in Fife 👇One shows a library that’s small, hidden away, and overlooked — out of sight, out of mind. The other shows what’s possible when a library is valued and supported by senior leadership — bright, spacious, welcoming, and central to school life. This is the postcode lottery our young people face.A well-resourced school library is not a luxury. It is:✨ A safe space✨ A hub for literacy and learning✨ A place for research, curiosity and inclusion✨ Support for attainment and wellbeingThis new investment is a positive step — but it must mean proper staffing, proper spaces, and equal access in every high school across Fife.No more postcode lottery. No more second-class provision.Let’s make sure this funding delivers real change for every child and our members who values this provision. 📖✊#InvestInEducation #SupportSchoolLibraries #FifeCouncil #UNISONFife ... 📍 Out and about in Dunfermline today!Brenda and Susan had a fantastic visit to the Dunfermline Learning Campus today, home to Woodmill High School and St Columba’s High School – what an impressive campus it is! Susan was especially impressed with the dining facilities! 🥗 A big thank you to Karen, the new steward, who gave them a guided tour. It was great to meet janitorial, catering and other school-based members – and even had a chat with Woodmill High’s Rector, Mr McIntosh. They've left UNISON information for noticeboards to keep everyone up to date. They also popped into Dunfermline High School, where they met with janitorial staff (missed catering this time!) and put up posters for the noticeboards. Unfortunately they didn't manage a catch up with the school steward - maybe next time! If your workplace would like a visit from Brenda and the team to put up a UNISON noticeboard, please get in touch with the branch at 📧 [email protected]Always great to be out meeting members 💜 ...
