We have therefore been left with no option but to call UNISON members working in schools – and early years establishments that are co-located with or based in a school – out on strike on 26th, 27th and 28th September 2023.
“UNISON members who were balloted voted in unprecedented numbers to take strike action overpay. You have given us a mandate to call out over 21000 school based staff on strike action, in almost 2000 schools, in 24 councils across Scotland.
We know you would much prefer to be in school supporting children – not on picket lines outside them. We are doing everything we can to avert these strikes. But there has been no increased offer from COSLA, yet. We understand COSLA has not approached the Scottish government for more money to improve their offer, and no further meetings of the negotiating committee are currently scheduled.”
If you are a member who will be going on strike, please check your emails for more specific information about getting ready to go on strike. You will be financially supported to take action given you are doing so on behalf of ALL local government workers. To help us keep in contact with you, please check we have up to date details for you.
