SSSC Registered?
If you work in the social service or care sector in Scotland, for instance as a –
Social Worker
Support Worker
EYO
PSA
Home Carer, etc
You come under the regulation of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). The SSSC is a regulatory body which regulates the social service workforce in Scotland.
All service workers have to be registered with the SSSC and abide by its Codes of Practice inside and outside of work.
If there has been an alleged breach of these Codes of Practice, the SSSC may investigate this. What the SSSC can investigate is wide ranging but will more generally investigate a registered worker’s fitness to practise.
If you are found to be in breach of the SSSC Codes, you could face losing your SSSC registration.
What does this mean? No registration – unable to continue in your job.
Warning
– if you are registered with the SSSC and receive a request to complete a personal statement please note that you should contact UNISON for immediate assistance.
DO NOT respond – advise the SSSC you are seeking legal support from UNISON.
UNISON will arrange for you to get full support to complete the statement -another reason that once registered with the SSSC you must also join UNISON for the best protection at work.
IMPORTANT
– UNISON, like most unions, has a qualifying period for representation.
Members must have been in membership of the union for at least 4 weeks prior to the incident or occurrence that leads to seeking legal assistance from the union.
